The Si5HyUdPTC1-30V-20A is a 30V 20A, microprocessor based, Hybrid, Unidirectional, Proportional Temperature Controller board with an integrated finned heat sink for Heating or Cooling applications. These application modes are Jumper selectable (J2 Open selects the Cooling Mode while J2 Short selects the Heating Mode). In the Cooling Mode, the Load current is proportionally controlled long as the Measured Temperature is greater than the Set Temperature; otherwise, the load-current is tuned off. In the Heating Mode, the Load current is proportionally controlled long as the Measured Temperature is less than the Set Temperature; otherwise, the load-current is tuned off. The jumper J2 is examined each time the power is turned ON; consequently, the power must be tuned off when a new mode is selected and the TE cell wires must be reversed. This board uses pulse-width modulation (PWM) to efficiently control average current to a resistive heater or Thermo-Electric (TE) cooler cell in 0 to 600W power range with 5W steps. An onboard microprocessor allocates the load-power and controls the temperature. The sample temperature is measured by a small, 9-bit digital thermometer Si18DTsens-9B. This sensor uses a unique “1-wire interface” (with a parasite power mode) that requires only 2-conductors for reliable remote (long as 20 meters) temperature sensing. The term proportional controller implies that the value of the average load current used is proportional to the difference between the actual and desired temperature. Five PWM duty-cycle values are used depending on the absolute-value of the difference between the set and measured temperature values (|Td|). The duty-cycle is 0% when |Td|=00C; 25% when 00C< |Td|<0.50C; 50% when 0.50C< |Td|<1C0; 75% when 10C< |Td|<1.50C; 100% when |Td|>1.50C. This method allows a uniform temperature control in the -250C to +1020C Range, with 1/20C accuracy. As the name hybrid (Hy) implies, the required temperature value (or load current) is derived from a variable analog-voltage, while all other control-signals are digital. The desired temperature value (or load current) is set by a (0 to 5V range) external analog voltage (VI1,G), or by an external potentiometer. This analog (I1) input is zener-diode protected. This board requires a single 9V to 30V DC power source (unregulated and unfiltered) at a 0A to 20A current range to operate normally. An onboard LED (red) is used to monitor the load-voltage and an optional 2-Line by 16-Character serial LCD displays the Set and Measured Temperature Values on the CN4 Port (Si14LCD2L16CH-3PC). A small (2.3”x2.4”x0.45”) integrated finned heat sink is included with mounting hardware (as shown on the photograph) to operate at 20A or 600W power levels. A Typical Application of the Si5HyUdPTC1-30V-20A

In this heating or cooling application (but not both at the same time, user selectable by the jumper J2), the temperature (load-current) is proportionally controlled (in the 0 to 600W power range) by the Si5 board. The desired temperature (or load current) is linearly adjusted with the Si5Pot1-5k accessory (an external 1-turn 5kW pot); -250C to +1020C Temperature Range, in 1/20C Steps. The 9-bit digital temperature sensor can be purchased from us (see Parts Department Si18DTsens-9B) or you can wire up your own using the Dallas Semi. Digital Thermometer chip DS18S20, in TO-92 casing (order from www.digikey.com as part number DS18S20-ND). An optional 2-Line by 16-Character serial LCD displays the Set and Measured Temperature Values on the CN4 Port (Si14LCD2L16CH-3PC).The TE cells can be purchased from:  www.customthermoelectric.com/.
